Writing a personal statement for your college application doesn't have to be intimidating or stressful. In fact, it's an opportunity for exploration, self-reflection, and creative expression. With the right guidance, writing this essay can be fun. (Yes, that's what I said: FUN.)

That's why I'm hosting a . . . 

College Essay Writing Workshop

in Walnut Creek

Sunday, September 8, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

In this workshop, students will . . .

  • engage in a writing process they can use for all college essays,
  • choose a powerful question from the common app or UC personal insight lists,
  • take a deep dive into self-reflection,
  • brainstorm and assess potential essay topics,
  • discuss key writing issues such as voice, audience, and purpose,
  • plot out main points and supporting details, 
  • develop a working draft of an essay, 
  • discuss strategies for revision.

In addition to helping students produce powerful college essaysthis workshop is designed to help students . . . 

  • reduce stress related to college applications;
  • learn, write, and revise in a supportive environment;
  • find joy and empowerment through creative expression;
  • and laugh. A lot.

Participation is limited to 10 students, so grab a spot quick!

Tuition is $525, which includes 8 hours of instruction on the day of the workshop, plus a one-hour, one-on-one consultation ($150 value) to be scheduled after the workshop, as needed.

Workshop Location:
The workshop will be hosted in Walnut Creek. The location will depend on the number of students and the weather forecast. I'll send location details a few days before the workshop.

Cancellation Policy:
Cancellations before September 1 are eligible for a 50% tuition refund.
Cancellations on or after September 1 are not eligible for a refund. 
Tuition is transferrable. If you can find someone to take your student's spot, great! 

One on One Consultations:

Remember! Your tuition includes workshop participation anda one-hour, one-on-one consultation for your student, to be scheduled as needed, following the workshop. Students can use this hour for support at any stage of the writing process or for feedback on essay drafts. Consultations can be conducted in person in Walnut Creek, or via Skype/Facetime. Plan ahead! Last minute consultation requests are difficult to accommodate. 
This consultation offer is not transferrable. The offer expires six months after the workshop date.
